A meeting was arranged between Pakistani athletes who represented the country in Tokyo Olympics, 2021 and the Chief of Army Staff. In the meeting which took place on Wednesday, the athletes thanked General Bajwa for acknowledging and supporting their efforts. They appreciated Pakistan Army’s commitment to always encouraging sportsmen and recognizing their services to the country.
The sportsmen in attendance included, Arshad Nadeem (Javelin thrower), Talha Talib (weightlifter), Havaldar Muhammad Khalil Akhtar (shooter), and sepoy Ghulam Joseph (shooter). Pakistan Army’s media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported that in the meeting the COAS applauded the athletes for their efforts and said that they are indeed an inspiration for the younger generation aspiring to represent the country in various sports, internationally.
Gen Bajwa assured the athletes that the institution of Pakistan Army will equally support them in their future tournaments as well. He said that, “Army has always supported sports in Pakistan”. And added, “Representing Pakistan at the international level is not only honor for you but it also brings pride to the nation”.
In the early weeks of August, a committee comprising of government officials had called upon the officials of the Pakistan Olympics Association (POA) and discussed with them the factors which have allegedly lead to their under satisfactory performance in the Tokyo games.
